Frequently Asked Questions--What is the difference between waterproofing and water repellency? What is the lifespan of a water repellent finish? What about maintenance?

What is PFC-free/PFAS-free in Rain jacket?

Do you want to use your rain jacket for a long time, but are not sure about the difference in performance or maintenance? In this section, we have picked up some of the most frequently asked questions from among the various concerns we receive at droproof. Please refer to these questions before performing daily maintenance and cleaning.

Q1. Will GORE-TEX waterproof performance be restored?

A. Basically, the waterproof performance of GORE-TEX does not deteriorate. However, water repellency will gradually decrease, but can be restored if you ask droproof to do so.

Waterproofing and water repellency are two different physical phenomena. In the case of a rain jacket, waterproof performance refers to the ability to keep water out so that the inside of the jacket does not get wet. In contrast, water repellency refers to the ability to repel water and prevent the fabric from absorbing water.

In the case of GORE-TEX products, water repellency does not decrease as long as the GORE-TEX membrane used as an interlining material is not damaged. On the other hand, the water repellency of the outer nylon and polyester fabrics that protect the GORE-TEX membrane will gradually degrade.

Please contact droproof, we can restore the water repellent performance to a high level through our advanced treatment techniques.

Q2. I want to do my own maintenance, so please sell me a recommended water repellent.

A. We do not sell water repellent by itself for the following reasons.

Our DWR treatment differs from commercially available water repellent sprays in the treatment process. A water repellent by itself is not sufficient to provide durability in water repellent performance. A sophisticated treatment process using a variety of equipment and chemicals makes it possible to achieve high durability in water repellency.

Water repellent treatment using water repellent sprays is easy and inexpensive, but if you want your rain jacket to last longer, please contact a professional. droproof uses an advanced treatment process to restore the water repellency of GORE-TEX and other rain jackets.

Q3. How long will Droproof's water repellency last?

A. The water repellent performance does not deteriorate over time, but gradually decreases with each use. Therefore, the degree of degradation of water repellency will vary depending on usage conditions.

At Droproof, based on experiments, we have compiled data on the change in water repellency with the number of washing cycles. We have also verified the comparison with commercially available sprays and water repellents, so please take a look our website.

Q4. Should I reapply water repellent treatment to my new rain jacket?

A. We developed droproof's DWR treatment to produce the same performance as a new rain jacket. Therefore, a new rain jacket does not require a new water repellent treatment.

Of course, droproof is constantly striving to achieve the best water repellency performance. However, each manufacturer has also achieved advanced water repellent treatment technology, and a new rain jacket will function with water repellent performance without any problems. Please contact us when the water repellency performance deteriorates with use.

Q5. Is it possible to apply water repellent treatment to a fabric called " ** " in a droproof?

A. If the fabric is mainly made of nylon or polyester, it is considered possible.

In most cases, the name given to a rain jacket material refers to the material used for the interlining. For example, GORE-TEX, a well-known waterproof and breathable material, is essentially a thin membrane used for the interlining.

These fabrics are made of nylon or polyester, which are common synthetic fibers, on the front and back. As a general rule, droproofs support advanced water repellent treatment for nylon and polyester.

Q6. If I ask droproof to apply water repellent treatment to my rain jacket, will it also remove stains?

A. Yes, stains can be removed from rain jackets because of the high-precision washing process that is performed during the water-repellent treatment.

In order for the water repellent treatment to take hold, the surface of the rain jacket must be clean. For example, if you want to fix something with glue or tape, it is just like if you don't clean the place where you want to stick something, it will soon come off along with the dirt.

We use advanced cleaning techniques to maintain the appearance and performance of your rain jacket to a high standard.

Q7. Can Droproof repair rain jackets?

A. Yes, repairs are possible. Please add a comment of your repair request at the time of request.

For example, one of the most common repairs is to replace the seam tape that protects the seams of waterproof material. Please request it to droproof, we are  a professional maintenance team to support you.

Q8. How do we do maintenance after “DANSUI Coating” on a droproof?

A.As in the past, please wash regularly and perform heat treatment drying each time.

DANSUI coating is highly durable, but it is not permanent. If the fabric loses its coating due to abrasion, it must be treated again.

Depending on the frequency of use, it is recommended that a DANSUI coating be applied with a drop roof once a year or once a season if the rain jacket is used frequently. Regular maintenance is the first step to a longer life of your rain jacket.
